Deze maand gaan we met een echte klassieker aan de slag: De Josephs Coat Techniek!

Maar klassiek wil niet zeggen dat de techniek uit de tijd is! Integendeel! Goede technieken kun je eindeloos nieuw leven inblazen!
But classic does not mean it is outdated! Oh no! Good techniques can be given new live endlessly!

De Josephs Coat techniek is vernoemd naar de bekende musical! Eigenlijk komt het neer op het aanbrengen van een zwarte/donkere inkt op een kleurrijke achtergrond die deels bedekt is met een afstotende laag. Daardoor komen dan de kleuren tevoorschijn!
The Josephs Coat technique is named after the famous musical! In fact the technique ia adding black/dark ink to a brightly coloured background which is partly covered by a resisting layer. Through that layer the colours come peeking through!

Ik vind het een toffe techniek! Je kunt er zo veel leuke effecten mee verkrijgen! En natuurlijk vind ik het ook leuk dat er lekker veel inkt en lekker veel laagjes in zitten!
I love this technique! You can get so many fun effects with it! And ofcourse I love all the inking and layering that comes with it!

Voor vandaag maakte ik er een lekker anders-dan-anders kerstkaart mee, in de klassieke kleurcombinatie van blauw met goud! Gecombineerd met een vleugje kerstig groen!
For today I made a fun, a bit unusual Christmascard with it, in the Classic colourcombination of Blue & Gold! Together with a bit of Christmassy Green!

De achtergrond maakte ik in drie hoofd stappen.
1: Voor de eerste stap kleurde ik eerst een stuk Basic White Cardstock met twee kleuren groen en twee kleuren blauw en Blending Brushes. De gebruikte kleuren Old Olive, Shaded Spruce, Starry Sky & Night of Navy zullen straks steeds in de kaart terugkomen.
Ik vulde de hele achtergrond met de kleuren. Dit hoeft echt niet supernetjes.
Voor de volgende stap is het heel belangrijk dat alle inkt helemaal droog is, dus voor de zekerheid nam ik er even de Heat Tool bij.
The background was made in three main steps.
1: For the first step I coloured a piece of Basic White cardstock with two greens and two blues, using Blending Brushes. The used colours Old Olive, Shaded Spruce, Starry Sky & Night of Navy will later return in other parts of the card.
I filled the whole panel with the colours, and it was not needed to be very precize in this step.
For the next step it is important to make sure all the ink has dried so I took the Heat Tool to make sure that was the case.

2: De tweede stap is het bedekken van de delen waar je straks de aangebrachte kleuren wilt blijven zien. Hiervoor gebruiken we het Embossen met Clear Embossingpoeder.
Eerst gebruikte ik de Embossing Buddy om zeker te zijn dat het paneel niet statisch was. Vervolgens stempelde ik er de afbeelding op met Versamark inkt en de geweldige Rays of Light stempel. Daarna strooide ik er Clear Embossingpoeder op die blijft plakken in de Versamark inkt. Dit verhitte ik met de Heat Tool zodat het embossingpoeder een mooie gladde, glanzende laag wordt. In deze stap waren de handige tools uit de Embossing Additions Tool Kit van grote hulp!!
2: The second step is covering the parts where you want to keep seeing the colours you made in step 1. Herefore we use Heat Embossing with Clear Embossingpowder.
First I used the Embossing Buddy to make sure the panel was not static. Then I stamped the image with Versamark and the gorgeous Rays of Light stampset. I covered it with clear embossingpowder which sticks onto the Versamark ink. I started heating it with the Heattool, until the powder melted and became a clear, shiny layer. During this stem the tools from the Embossing Additions Tool Kit came in very handy!!

3: Stap drie is het aanbrengen van de donkere kleur. In plaats van het klassieke zwart dat bij de oorspronkelijke techniek hoort, koos ik voor donkere blauwtinten. Zo blijf ik in mijn kleurenpalet.
Eerst bracht ik met de Blending Brush Starry Sky inkt aan over het gehele paneel. Dit mag lekker royaal. De inkt hecht aan de plekken waar geen embossinglaagje zit.
Ik besloot nu eerst mijn achtergrond op maat te snijden en vervolgens zette ik de randen en het midden van het paneel aan met Night of Navy inkt. Zo krijg je nog een extra mooi verloop. Als laatste poetste ik met een schoon stukje keukenrolpapier alle restanten inkt van de gladde delen, zodat het nog mooier en contrasterender wordt. De oorspronkelijk aangebrachte kleuren komen nu weer mooi helder tevoorschijn.
3: Step three is adding the dark colour. Instead of black, which belongs in the original technique, I chose for some blue colours. That way I stayed in the chosen colourpalette.
First I started adding Starry Sky ink with a Blending Brush all over the panel. This can be used abundantly. The ink sticks to the parts where there os no embossed layer.
Next I decided to cut my panel to size and than inked the edges and the centre with Night of Navy Ink. This gives a nice ombre effect. Finally I cleaned it of with a tissue. This removes all the bits of ink of the embossed parts, so the effect and brightness are as big as possible. The original colours come shining through!

Time to make the background into a Christmassy Card!
De Cottage Wreaths set, met de bijpassende Country Wreaths stansset passen er helemaal bij! Het is een van mijn favorieten!

In de krans komen alle gebruikte kleuren weer terug, maar ik voegde er ook goud aan toe. Dit deed ik door goud embossing in de krans en de tekst, maar ook door de onderlaag die ik stanste uit Gold Foil Sheet en die hier en daar achter de krans vandaan piept. Ook het Simmply Elgant Trim is goudkleurig.
In the wreath all the used colours are used again, but I added some gold too. I did some heat embossing in gold on the wreath and the text, but also added a layer under the wreath that peeps out here and there. I diecut this from some Foil sheet in Gold. The Simply Elegant Trim is also in gold!

Door het bij details te houden overstemd het goud niet, maar vormt het juist een prachtige versterking van de kleuren.
En kijk eens goed, ik gebruikte de Fun Flowers Resin Shapes als decoratie. Het zijn bloemetjes, maar ze passen er wonderlijk goed bij!
By sticking to just details the gold is not getting too much compared to the colours. Now they make eachother shine more!
And look how those Fun Flowers Resin Shapes work so well as decoration, even though they are flowers!

Ook kwam er een subtiel beetje goud terug in de Night of navy tussenlaag. Lekker een beetje losjes aangebracht!
I also added a subtle amount of loosely added gold to the Night of Navy layer.

Maar de achtergrond is deze keer wel het meest bijzondere onderdeel van de kaart!
But this time the background is the most special part of the card I think!

Ik vind het echt geweldig hoe mooi deze sets met elkaar blijken te matchen! Daar ga ik vast nog wel iets mee doen!
